Epoxy Overlay Aggregates

Non-Slip Aggregates for Epoxy Overlay Streetscape

With the streetscape application, any preexisting hardscape sidewalk, trail, or pathway can be quickly and easily enhanced while also increasing traction. With over 40 different colors of granite, quartz, pebbles, and recycled materials available for use in epoxy overlay streetscape applications, this non slip aggregate is both aesthetically pleasing and practical. The streetscape application greatly increases traction, warranting a non-slip surface for pedestrians. Our granite, quartz, pebbles, and recycled materials are extremely hard aggregates and easily withstand rigorous elements, ensuring a beautiful, high traction surface that won’t break down overtime.

Kafka Granite’s streetscape aggregates can be quickly and easily adhered to any preexisting hardscape surface using a two-part epoxy. After any preexisting cracks have been filled and the surface has been thoroughly cleaned, the epoxy is spread evenly on the surface. Next, the aggregate is dispersed over the epoxy. Once the stone has set, the excess is swept away and can be reused. Although Kafka Granite can meet any specification, we recommend 1/8″ x 18 mesh for decorative and pedestrian applications, therefore creating a total additional thickness of 3/8ā€ to your preexisting hardscape surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Kafka Granite?

Kafka Granite offers aggregate materials ideal for a variety of scenarios, including your streetscape project. Our superior offering of crushed stone, decomposed granite, and an array of recycled materials make your project possible. Whether you are creating a functional or decorative streetscape, intricate or otherwise, Kafka’s depth of variety, utility and size in regards to granite and crushed stone can perfect any space or project.

Our decomposed granite aggregate and crushed stone come in over 50 colors, leaving you with essentially endless options for your project. We can even try and create custom color blends to match your specific streetscape’s color palette. Many of our options are locally sourced or are made from recycled materials, which could help garner points toward LEED certification. Our state-of-the-art crushing facility can create any size stone for you—just give us a call today to talk about the possibilities for your streetscape.

What is an epoxy overlay streetscape?

An epoxy overlay streetscape is a way to both enhance the aesthetic value and improve safety of an existing hardscape sidewalk, trail, or other pedestrian area. A decorative or utilitarian streetscape is created by first applying a two-part epoxy, then covering it with one of Kafka Granite’s many crushed aggregate options.

Kafka Granite does not install streetscapes—instead, we offer a wide selection of aggregate for those who install these projects or anyone looking for material to do so.

Why would I want to use an epoxy overlay streetscape?

An epoxy overlay streetscape can offer a variety of benefits to a project. Firstly, a streetscape can offer an invaluable aesthetic appeal. Whether you choose a natural color to blend in with your environment or a vibrant, bold color to stand out, an epoxy overlay streetscape offers more visually than a traditional hardscape surface, such as concrete or asphalt.

In addition to adding a visual depth, an epoxy overlay streetscape can provide an incredibly durable non slip surface for pedestrians or bicycles. Our extremely hard aggregates can withstand heavy traffic and use while providing premium traction ideal for those on bikes, on foot, or in wheelchairs for generally wet, slick areas. Regardless of climate, a non-slip epoxy overlay surface will help improve traction, but for freeze/thaw climates, the surface will even aid in ice melt – as the combination of trapping ice salt and increased friction

How do I prepare my surface for a streetscape overlay?

Before an epoxy overlay streetscape can be laid, the pre-existing hardscape must be properly prepared. Without a properly prepared surface, the longevity of any project will be compromised as existing problems, such as cracks, will make themselves apparent with time and use.

The hardscape surface needs to cleaned and thoroughly inspected for cracks or breaks. If any of these are detected before laying the streetscape overlay, they must be repaired. Once the existing hardscape is in good condition, the surface may need to be scarified using a grinder to ensure adhesion of the two-part epoxy to the surface. Please see your two-part epoxy manufacturer for these instructions.

Why Kafka Granite for my streetscape?

Kafka Granite offers aggregates in granite, quartz, and even recycled materials in about 50 colors. Our entire spectrum of solutions is comprised of extremely hard aggregates that can withstand heavy traffic, day-to-day abuse, snowplows and intense freeze/thaw cycles.

What is my next step?

Call Kafka Granite today. We can discuss your project and find the best possible solution for you. We know our variety of aggregates will make your epoxy overlay streetscape project a success.
