High Solar Reflectivity Aggregates for White Roof Overlays

White is the New Green! Kafka Granite specially produces Recycled Porcelain, White Quartz, and naturally round Birchwood Granite in a variety of sizes suitable for use in several application techniques of white roof coating. Kafka Granite’s white roof crushed aggregates, manufactured sands, and round pebbles can be quickly and easily applied to any preexisting rooftop using a two-part epoxy. Birchwood is also available in 1 1/2″ for traditional roof ballast applications. White roofs, also known as cool roofs, greatly reduce the amount of heat absorbed by roofing materials from the sun, therefore reducing the heat island effect. While White Quartz is our brightest white and Birchwood is the whitest round stone available, our Recycled Porcelain can help further increase the LEED points earned on your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a white roof?

A white roof, also known as a cool roof, is an environmentally friendly roofing option. A white roof can reflect up to 90 percent of the sun’s rays while a dark-colored roof only reflects roughly 20 percent of sunlight.

Dark-colored roofs absorb more heat and have little ability to radiate that trapped heat. Immense amounts of energy and related costs are expended to cool a building with a black or dark roof with lots of sun exposure. Dark-colored roofs also contribute to Urban Heat Island Effect—where tightly packed metropolitan areas have a high quantity of heat-absorbing structures and roofs—which significantly warms the atmosphere around urban areas when compared with their outlying suburbs.

Kafka’s white roof options can be quickly and easily applied by professionals with use of a two-part epoxy. Our whitest option is our white quartz, and our brightest round stone is Birchwood granite. However, using our recycled porcelain can further increase the amount of LEED points that could be earned with your project.

Why would I want a white roof overlay?

Using a white roof overlay not only helps combat the Heat Island Effect if your project or structure is in an urban area, but it can reduce your personal energy costs. You could reduce your summer energy use by 10–40% by covering your existing dark roof with one of our white roof options.

Why Kafka Granite?

Kafka Granite can provide you with a broad selection of white roof overlay options. We offer white roof coating in recycled porcelain, white quartz and Birchwood granite. Kafka’s state-of-the-art equipment is capable of customizing the size of your aggregate from sand and pebbles for two-part epoxy applications, and 1 ½” stones for traditional roof ballasts, depending on your specific needs or desires.

Our crushed stone and round pebble white roof options come in several materials, leaving you with many varieties to choose from for your project. We have both locally sourced and recycled options, and they also contribute to reducing heat island effect. All of these characteristics could help garner points toward LEED certification.

What is my next step?

Call Kafka Granite today. We can discuss your project and find the best possible solution for you. We know our variety of white roof aggregates will make your energy-efficient white roof overlay a success.
