Kafka Granite Wax Polymer Ballyard Materials

Premium Infield & Warning Track Mixes

Why wait two days to play on your field after a storm? Play the minute the storm is over, or during the rain if you want to. Kafka’s patented Burma Red Wax Polymer Infield Mix is crushed to ⅛″ minus with fines, then combined with a polymeric wax in a proprietary process to create a unique infield alternative. This material is easy to install and maintain while delivering a surface that is waterless, dustless, and completely free of mud. Wax polymer infields are so unique you have to see the water bead up on the surface to believe it. Watch the home team’s confidence in their fielding ability. Recommended depth of 2″–3″ for new field construction over an appropriate base material.

With Kafka’s Burma Red Wax Polymer Warning Track Mix you can be sure of your players’ safety without time-consuming maintenance. This material is slightly more coarse than our infield mix, giving your players the familiar “crunch” under foot that they expect when approaching the wall.

Kafka’s Wax Polymer Ballyard Materials create an impermeable surface to eliminate mud and dust, saving hours in maintenance and watering.

How it works

Our patented Wax Polymer Infield Mix and Wax Polymer Warning Track Mix are fit for the big leagues. Instead of being made of what the most typical ballyard mixes are made from—sand, silt, and clay—our Wax Polymer Ballyard Mixes are made from decomposed granite and blended with a polymeric wax. The wax polymer binds the stone particles together to create a state-of-the-art playing surface that is impermeable yet resilient, and completely free of mud or dust. Players can get back to playing immediately after a storm or even while it’s still raining without the worry of puddles, mud, or a pitting infield, warning track, or mound.

Installation & Maintenance

Proper installation and maintenance is critical to the durability and longevity of any ballyard. You will need to determine how much material is necessary for the project. This is dependent upon a number of factors, including the size/configuration of your ballyard and the materials being used for the aggregate.

Infields

Kafka’s Burma Red Wax Polymer Infield Mix is an excellent choice for new infield installations. Kafka recommends 2″–3″ of compacted Wax Polymer Infield Mix. Excavate the infield area and compact an appropriate base material with a one-ton drum roller to allow a minimum 2″ or 3″ depth. Soak the base material.

Spread the Wax Polymer Infield Mix evenly to allow for 2″ or 3″ compacted depth. Compact to the finished thickness using a one-ton drum roller. Do not use vibration compaction, as this may separate the wax polymer from the material. Reference the chart below to determine the configuration and amount of Wax Polymer Infield Mix to order.

Warning Tracks

Kafka recommends 3″ of Burma Red Wax Polymer Warning Track Mix. Excavate the warning track area and compact an appropriate base material with a one-ton drum roller to allow for a 3″ compacted depth. Soak the base material, then spread the Wax Polymer Warning Track Mix evenly to allow for a minimum 3″ compacted depth. Compact to the finished thickness using a one-ton drum roller. Do not use vibration compaction, as this may separate the wax polymer from the material. Use the Warning Track Mix Calculator to determine the amount of material to order.

Note that the Kafka Wax Polymer Ballyard Materials should be firm, but loose aggregate will appear on the surface for a natural look and feel. If the loose material on the surface is excessive, scarify the surface and re-compact as needed. Additional material can be spread and compacted as needed.

Kafka offers Burma Red Wax Polymer Infield Mix and Burma Red Wax Polymer Warning Track Mix. While the differences are subtle, they get the job done in the best way possible.

Burma Red Wax Polymer Infield Mix is a derivative of our standard infield mix: It’s made of decomposed granite crushed to the perfect size to provide stable footing and consistent ball hops and sliding for player perfection and audience enjoyment. Our Wax Polymer Infield Mix, however, includes a coating of cutting-edge polymer that instantly sheds water.

Our Burma Red Warning Track mix is the same premium duo of decomposed granite and wax polymer as the infield mix, but the granite is crushed to a slightly larger size. The slightly coarser size of the warning track mix provides players with a good “crunch” under foot to warn them of the impending wall around the field’s perimeter. There’s no more need to worry about loose footing, just the wall.

The product is commonly shipped via bulk end-dump trucks and trailers, with an average truckload of material weighing approximately 23 tons — though the type of material and the size of the truck and trailer will cause this to fluctuate slightly. Less-than-truckload quantities are available in one ton increments, but may be subject to additional set-up fees due to small production runs.

If bulk truckload shipping is not an option, our Ballyard Mixes can be packaged in ~3,000-pound super sacks. These 1½-ton bags provide easy transportation via flatbed, van, or LTL common carriers, and also facilitate easier storage and handling on job sites.
